Giving Back During the Holiday Season....

Recently I had an experience that I thought I would share with all of our Hofstra community....

A few weeks ago I was travelling in New York City, spending my day visiting various High Schools and speaking to many great potential Hofstra students. I went to four high schools and a college fair as well, in an effort to inform students of the endless opportunities that Hofstra has to offer.

Along the way I took the Long Island Railroad, 2 subways and 3 cab rides...(and a partridge in a pear treeeee ;) On my way home I exited a cab right outside of the Long IslandRailroad entrance ( I believe 7th avenue) and knew I had actually made it in time to make an earlier train than anticipated. I quickly took out my wallet, paid the driver via credit card and
dashed out of the cab, destined to make the train with 3 minutes to spare, to avoid waiting for the next trainNeedless to say I made the train as I ran through Penn Station ( I am quite fastfor someone who was carrying 3 bags full of Hofstra information :)

Beep boop....the doors close and I am comfortably on the train, on my way home....And then I reached toward my pocket for my wallet....and my face most likely turned a white/green/red (Christmas!) combination, with both nausea and fear and some anger....No wallet was to be found

Instinctively I started freaking out as I didn't care about the 40 or 50 dollars inside but all of the credit cards, personal information among other things that were inside my wallet. I get home and turn on my computer and check my Hofstra mail, in an effort to distract my mind from the issues at hand..AND THERE IT WAS...an email from a man we'll call "Santa" , stating he found my wallet (not in the cab, as I had thought) but on 7th Avenue, on the sidewalk, and had returned it to the lost and found in Penn Station

Not only when I returned to retrieve it was NOTHING missing,(cash, everything!) but my Hofstra business card inside was what allowed him to contact me... It was great to know that there are people out there who truly care and who are truly helpful and so give back this Holiday season, whether it be a card, in a gift, donation, a kind word..................

....or my wallet.

Happy Holidays Everyone!
